05-03-'15: And so it begins! Sunday morning, 9 AM, our alarms went off and we got up to go to Dusseldorf airport. At 12.45, our plane departed for Chicago, Illinois. Everything went smoothly, until we landed in Chicago. First, our flight to our final destination, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, got delayed by 2 hours. Then, when we could finally board the plane, it got stuck in a storm. A big one. Because of all the turbulence, we were forced to make an emergency landing in Moline, Illinois. Because of the storm, no planes were able to leave or enter Cedar Rapids. We were stranded at the airport. Fortunately, our host family, Dennis and Becky, came to pick us up. It was a 1.5 hour drive, but it was better than to wait at the airport until 11.15 AM the next day, when the planes would be cleared to land in Cedar Rapids again. At 3 AM, we arrived at their house and considering we had been up for over 28 hours now, we went straight to bed. Tomorrow, the internship will really begin!
