05-16-'15 and 05-17-'15: Day fourteen and fifteen
Today was our last day in Cedar Rapids. In the morning, Becky and Dennis took us to the village/city Marion, where an Arts Festival was being held. We wandered around at the festival for a while, then went to Becky's brother's antique store. After that, we went to have breakfast at the restaurant Dennis used to own. We had apple pancakes with caramel. By then it was time to go to the airport. However, when we tried to check in our e-tickets, the machine kept telling us we had no ticket reservations. We asked a clerk's help. After checking the system, he told us that all our flights had been cancelled. On our way to Cedar Rapids, we had to make that emergency landing in Moline. The flight from Moline to Cedar Rapids would depart the next day. We did not take that plane, as Becky and Dennis came to pick us up in Moline. Therefore, United had cancelled all our other flights too. The clerk managed to restore our ticket reservations, but the flight from Cedar Rapids to Chicago was overbooked now. The airport called four people to volunteer to take the next flight to Chicago, the same day, only 4 and a half hours later, instead. Fortunately, some people did volunteer and we were able to take the flight at 2.19 PM. Everything from that moment on went smoothly and we landed in Dusseldorf even earlier than planned. Mom and Dad had just arrived there and were waiting to pick us up.
The internship was an amazing experience, as we have learned a lot and met a lot of awesome people. I would like to thank everyone who helped us, especially Dennis, Becky and the people from the Boys and Girls Club office. You made this experience even better. Thank you very, very much!!
As the internship is over now and we are back at home, this will be the last blog (at least, for this journey). Thank you for reading! Goodbye!!
