05-09-'15: Day seven
This morning, the scent of bacon woke us up! :) Dennis was making us bacon and pancakes. Delicious! After breakfast, we hopped in the car with Dennis and went to Walmart, which is even bigger than we thought it would be. When we were done, we went back home to drop the groceries off and pick Becky up. She showed us the studio where she does pottery. After that, they took us to the Czech part of the city: Newbo. We went to see the Newbo-market. It got all kinds of little shops/stands, of which one sold all different flavours of peanut butter; chocolate, almond, hazelnut, white chocolate and honey. We got to try a couple of them and they were really good. There was also a little bakery that sold cupcakes. Myrthe and I both had one; Myrthe an Oreo-flavoured and I a chocolate cream-flavoured one. After that, we went to the Czech town within Newbo. Interesting fact: the Czech museum, which is the biggest in all the US, used to be on the other side of the road, but had to be moved after the flood in 2008. Therefore, trucks literally picked up the building and moved it across the street. It is the biggest building ever to be moved like that (photos will be uploaded. The museum used to be in the spot of the clock tower). The town also had a lot of antique shops and a bakery, where we went to get some Czech pastries for tonight (however, we decided to save them for tomorrow). I do not remember the name, but I will look it up and post it tomorrow. Then, we went to visit one of Dennis' sons and his wife and kids. They were throwing a barbecue, so they had quite some people over, also with their kids. After a while we took off again and we went to visit Becky's dad. Things were going very well and his hip was healing faster than expected, which means he is allowed to go back home next Wednesday. Just after 4, we went to church, as Becky was reading there. After mass, we went back home and we had dinner. When we finished, Becky and Dennis decided to teach us a card game they like to play: Euchre (not sure if I spelled that right, I will check tomorrow)
It was quite similar to the Dutch game Rikken. Dennis and I won! Because the weather was still very nice, we went to sit outside and lit up the fire place. And what is a campfire without marshmallows? Well... we were so full of the marshmallows, we decided to save the pastries for tomorrow. Speaking of which, my alarm will go off at 8.30 tomorrow, so I better head off to bed now! Good night!!
